Instructions - Park Trees on Navigate L.A.

As employees of the City of Los Angeles, we are continuously striving to bring the public a wider range of accessibility to our resources with the most up-to-date methods of data extraction available.

We now provide the public with worldwide internet access to our NavigateLA website. NavigateLA is an interactive GIS mapping system developed by our Public Works Department- Bureau of Engineering (BOE. As a web user, you are privileged to have access to many of the GIS features that have been located with GPS technology throughout our city at the following web address: http://navigatela.lacity.org (no "www").

PARK TREES: The Forestry Division of the Recreation and Parks Department has begun an intense tree inventory program designed to identify and preserve our city's important natural resources. The tree references can be viewed and the data can be downloaded to Microsoft Excel on NavigateLA.

Instructions for Using the Park Trees Layer

I. To view and search the mapped park trees on NavigateLA:
1.	Click the link below (A.)
	(A.) http://navigatela.lacity.org
2.	Download Mapguide Viewer 6 (on your first visit only) (B.)
3.	Accept conditions of the disclaimer (C.)
II. The next screen should look similar to this:
III. Click the checkbox next to "All Trees" (A.):
IV. Click on the "Zoom In" tool (A.):
V. To zoom to a select screen size:
1.	Click on one corner of the new view and hold down the mouse button (A.)
2.	Drag the mouse and release the button at the opposite corner of the  new rectangular view (B.)
VI. To view a quick description of a tree:
1.	Click on the "Select a Feature" tool
2.	Position the mouse pointer (still) on a tree and click the tree
VII. Or, double click on the tree to pull up the tree report (A.):
VIII. To start a tree search:
1.	Click on the drop down menu arrow (A.)
2.	Click on the "Park Trees" choice (B.)
IX. How to search (filter) tree selections:
1.	Enter full or partial words in the text boxes.(or leave blank to search all values) (A.)
2.	Click on "yes" or "no" option buttons to filter selections (or leave unchecked)(B.)
3.	Click the "Submit" command button (C.)
X. To zoom in to a specific tree on the "search result" report:
1.	Locate the desired tree record from the report and click on the "zoom to  tree" tool (A.)
2.	Notice that the selected tree symbol has changed from a green circle to a dark blue square (B.)
XI. To pull a tree report for a specific tree on the "search result" report:
1.	Locate the desired tree record from the report and click on the "Park tree detail" tool (A.)
XII. To navigate to the Urban Forest homepage:

1.	Click on the Tree Report link (A.)
XIII. To download the park trees search results data to Microsoft Excel:
1.	Click on the "Download to Excel" hyperlink on the Tree results report (A.)
2.	Choose Open to view the spreadsheet in the internet browser, or choose  save to store the data on disk and be able to manipulate it. (B.)
XIV. How to use the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that was created through the download:
1.	Row "1" contains one field name per column (A.)
2.	Rows "2- last" contain the tree records from the tree search report
