Are the sports academies free of charge?
Yes.The U.S. Housing and Urban Development Department provides LA Kids a Community Development Block Grant to conduct the FREE sports academies and FREE recreation classes and programs.
What are the dates of academies?
The academy will operate Tuesday - Friday, June 18 - August 2, from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm. Walk ins will be permitted June 25 - August 2. For more information concerning Walk ins, please click on http://www.laparks.org/lakids/youthWalkIn.htm. Before and after care is not provided; the academy will be closed July 2 - 5.
What is a walk in?
A walk in is a participating child that is transported to and from the academy by their parent or guardian. All other children arrive by bus from participating LA Kids recreation centers.
Can my child participate for the entire summer?
Yes, however, you may have to coordinate between walk in dates and participating recreation center dates.
What sports academies do you offer and what are the ages?
LA Kids offers a baseball, softball and soccer academy. The soccer academy is for boys and girls ages 7 - 14; baseball and softball are for boys and girls ages 9 - 14.
Where are the academies located?
The academies are conducted at the Hansen Dam Sports Complex, 11770 Foothill Boulevard, Lake View Terrace, CA. 91040.
Is lunch provided?
Yes, lunch is provided each day. However, a child may bring his or her own lunch. Please do not send lunches that need refrigeration or need to be heated.
Am I allowed to observe my child at the academy?
Yes, you may observe your child; however we ask that you do not interfere with your child, the other children or the coaches.
