PROGRAMS OFFERED:

ADAPTIVE SWIMMING

Adaptive swim lessons use techniques that place emphasis on swimming skills modified or adapted to accommodate individual abilities, needs, and goals, regardless of age. Lessons are created for, but not limited to, those with physical, sensory, communication or behavior challenges.

NOVICE TEAMS

This program is intended for the recreational participant. It does not come with any commitment to the program depending on the chosen level of participation. It is a seasonal program, however we encourage year-round participation in order to experience the full breadth of aquatic competition. Team practices include water instruction and may include dry land warm-ups. There is an opportunity for all participants to compete against other teams with similar ability and age citywide. Participation awards are given seasonally to each individual. Program is designed to accommodate both male and female participants.

Prerequisites: Participants must be 7-17 years of age and must be able to swim the width of the pool and back in deep water of that designated pool.

Springboard Dive Team
 Includes instruction on 1-3 meter board depending on location. Training on technique to accomplish required dives.
Swim Team
 Includes instruction on the four basic competitive strokes.
Artistic Swim Team
 Includes instruction on figures, routines, and choreography.
Water Polo Team
 Includes instruction on drills, shooting, passing, swimming conditioning, and overall knowledge of the game.

ADAPTIVE SWIMMING

For persons with mental or physical disabilities, this program helps participants to learn and improve skills, maintain and increase physical fitness, achieve success and receive recognition, and experience self-actualization in a regular aquatics environment.

JUNIOR LIFEGUARD PROGRAM

The Junior Lifeguard Program is a class designed to teach children ages 10-17 years basic water safety, skin diving, CPR, First Aid, and small crafts skills.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING

This course is designed for individuals interested in becoming L. A. City lifeguards. Students are trained in Red Cross Safety courses, given swim conditioning and interview training in preparation for upcoming lifeguard tests.

WATER EXERCISE

Aquacise
 This fat-burning fitness workout incorporates muscular and cardiovascular conditioning. Exercise includes some rhythmic activities, muscle strengthening and toning while having fun too!
Flex-stretch
 A low stretch and walk class that moves at a more leisurely pace. This class promotes flexibility, improves posture and increases cardiovascular endurance. Enjoy the rewards of working in a safe and effective exercise program.
Zero-Impact
 A deep-water exercise class that strengthens and builds all over muscle tone without impact to the joints. Belts will be provided or you may bring your own. Participants must be to able to swim in deep water.

COMMUNITY WATER SAFETY

Water Safety Instructor
 Program trains instructor candidates to teach all of the courses presented in the Swimming and Water Safety program fundamental Learn-to-swim courses including Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Learn-to-Swim Levels 1-6, private swimming lessons and Adult Swim lessons.
Lifeguard Training
 To provide Lifeguard candidates and lifeguards with the skills and knowledge necessary to keep the patrons aquatics facility safe in and around the water.
